This book was born from the listening, the experience, and the work of many members of the International Association of Exorcists. These Guidelines are made authoritative by the decisive contribution of the Congregation for the Clergy which examined and corrected them, making use of the contributions from the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments and the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

The text, a vademecum (Handbook) of exorcistic doctrine and practice of the new Ritual of Exorcisms, is intended for those who exercise the Ministry of Exorcism and for those who are preparing to live it.

Certainly, the exorcists adhering to the AIE will find herein a precious and valid instrument capable of guiding them, and at the same time, encouraging them to continue in their service in favor of those brothers and sisters who, under the weight of great suffering, need their delicate ministry.

The International Association of Exorcists (AIE) has been legally recognized since the 13th of June 2014 by decree of the Congregation for the Clergy. However, its story begins almost 30 years ago, thanks to the determination of a small group of Italian and overseas exorcists who started a collaboration through the organization of conferences and the connection through Circular Newsletters. Today there are more than 800 members from all over the world and it continues to grow.
