An Explanation of the Baltimore Catechism is a reference work and teacher’s manual for the original Baltimore Catechisms. It can also be used as an advanced textbook and thus is sometimes referred to as Baltimore Catechism Four. It was written by Fr. Thomas L. Kinkead both as an aid to all those who would be teaching from Catechism One, Two, and Three, and as a more complete statement of the Faith. Its purpose is to explain the questions in greater detail than do the earlier books in order to supply the catechist with additional information to enhance his instruction. To provide easy reference, questions bear the same numbers as Catechism One and Two. For giving interesting reading, its fascinating explanation of many little known questions pertaining to our Faith will richly reward the questioning reader.
